Attorney Michael J. Bartee has devoted his career to criminal law. He began in 1987 as a prosecutor in Manhattan, Kansas. In 1989, he moved to Johnson County to help found the public defender’s office, where he worked as an assistant and deputy public defender for 13 years. During his tenure as a public defender, Mr. Bartee was in court virtually every day, conducting dozens of jury trials for felony and misdemeanor crimes, and litigating hundreds of preliminary hearings, motions to suppress evidence and other matters. He was also able to negotiate favorable plea agreements for countless clients. In 2003, he established the law office of Michael J. Bartee, P.A., bringing with him his extensive criminal defense experience, respect from peers and prosecutors, and a track record of success in criminal law.
